Drop-In Ladder Play is now Monday & Wednesdays, 5pm to 7pm at Carrie Blake Park Courts. See the Court Schedule.
Monday Night Open Play continues at the Boys & Girls Club, 6pm to 9pm.
Always check the calendar for updates and changes.
It’s finally starting up! Monday, January 28th, at the B&G Club, our first league of 2019 will begin.
At our last member’s meeting, we surveyed members and we’ve heard you! The resounding choice was for a drop-in ladder league. What this means for you is – no need to sign up, make a commitment for the entire length of the league, or any need to find a partner. Yahoo!
The league will run from January 28th, for eight weeks, until March 18th. We will also have a dedicated skill ranking for 2.5’s as well. Because of our limited court space, we’ll divide the play time between all of the ranks. 2.5 and 3.0 will begin at 6 pm and play until 7:30 pm. 3.5 and up will begin at 7:30 pm and end at 9 pm. We will switch play times on Monday, February 25th, meaning 3.5 and up will begin at 6 pm and 2.5 and 3.0 will begin at 7:30 pm. Because of limited time, there is a cutoff time for play, this means if players aren’t signed in by 6:10 pm, (7:40 pm for later play), they won’t be allowed to play. We have to run on a schedule to make sure play stays on time.
As stated above, there is no pre-signup needed. Also, there are no fees this go around. Of course, we’ll always take your donations if anyone feels in the giving mood. Think ball machines..
SO, all we need for anyone who wants to play is to show up ON TIME to play. How simple is that? It’s sure to be fun and will give players an opportunity to see where their strengths and weaknesses are in comparison to others. Plus, it’s great exercise with lots of variety! It’s a blast!
I’ll have the score sheets and everything we need to get started. Hope to see you all there!
See you on the courts and PICKLE ON!
Your DOCO, Christy Marazon
SPRING IS IN THE AIR!
Spring League Rankings will be posted here each week.
Our Annual Spring League began Monday, April 9th and will last for 7 weeks ending on May 21st. This will be a mixed doubles league so grab a partner within your skill level and sign up.
Sign Up ASAP – We will take the first 8 teams for a 3.0 group and a 3.5 – 4.0 group. If you are going to miss 3 or more Monday night sessions, we kindly ask that you sign up as a sub and not as a team member. We will need subs for both divisions.
Substitute/Scoring Info – If one team member is absent and subbed for, the team scores will count in the totals. If both team members are absent, on the same night, the team scores will not count in the totals. Each week, 2 teams will play each other for 4 games in a row, first to 11. Over 7 weeks, all teams will have played everyone in their division. This format eliminates waiting time and any confusion as to the next opponent. If you do need a substitute, we ask you find a player of the same ranking and gender.
Playing Times – NOTE the Change From Previous Leagues –
6:00 pm – 7:30 pm – 3.5 and above (please do not arrive prior to 5:50 pm) 7:30 pm – 9:00 pm – 3.0 (please do not arrive prior to 7:20 pm)
$20.00 per person for Basic member
$15.00 per person for Bronze member
Gold and Silver members are free.
Money will be collected on April 9th during sign in. If paying in cash, please have correct change available.
To register – please email your name, partner’s name, phone number, and ranking to: firstname.lastname@example.org.
If you don’t have a partner, email your information and we’ll try to match you with another player. If no partner is found, your name will be added to the sub list.
The League Team and Director of Courts reserve the right to adjust brackets and skill rankings as needed.
Any other questions or comments can be emailed to Diane Froula at email@example.com.
See you on the courts!
Final Winter Ladder League Rankings as of March 5, 2018: Here are the final Winter League Rankings.
Just a quick note of thanks to our Winter League participants as well as the League team. Everyone had a great time and the games were competitive and fun. So thank you all who participated, both on and off the courts. The next Spring League won’t begin for another month or so, but competitive open play will still be available on Monday nights. Don’t stop coming just because league is over. Consistent play time and competitive matches with similarly ranked or higher ranked players, helps improve your game and makes you a more well-rounded player. Keep an eye on the calendar for when we will be starting up the next league. We’ve gotten your surveys and will be using them to plan something that will try to meet your wants and expectations. I will also send out an email to all members when details are finalized. As always, be safe, see you on the courts, and PICKLE ON!

Lastly, big thank you to those that helped set up and tear down – we were able to wrap up by 9:00.
We now transition into Open Ladder league until our Winter League begins sometime in January. We are looking for a league director to run the next league so if you have any interest, please let me know and I’ll fill you in on what it takes. The Winter League will not start until we have the resources in place to run it – so please consider helping out. It’s about an 6-8 week commitment on Mondays only.

Debbie, Beverly and Christy
Now that the Mixed Doubles League Championship is over, we are back to Drop-in Ladder League on Monday nights. The format of play is designed so that players play with others of similar skill levels. Your ranking on a ladder is based upon your winning percentage (the ratio of points won to total points possible) – stats are kept on each individual player. Players will move up or down the ladder based upon their winning percentage. The results of the ten most recent weeks of play will be used for this calculation. When certain thresholds are met based on a rolling 40 games, a person may be invited to play in a lower or higher rated group (more info on that later).
This is a DROP IN league – it’s OK if you miss a night or are just starting – your stats are specific to you and your games only. This league is open to everyone including non-members. Drop-in Ladder play will last through January 1-No play on Christmas.
Here’s how it works:
1 You arrive no later than 6:15. (Gym does not open to us before 6:00).
2 Set up the gym – EVERYONE!!
3 Standard $2 fee per night / per person (GOLD members are free)
4 The nets are divided by rating level: 2.5, 3.0, 3.5, 4.0+.
5 You sign up on the sheet for your rating level (if you don’t have a rating, see Debbie).
6 A captain is identified for the night for each level – they ensure the scores are tracked and totaled.
7 Play begins no later than 6:15.
8 Each person has a number on the sheet, the sheet determines which 2 sets of partners play the next game.
9 Round robin play until everyone plays with and against each other
10 Games first to 11. If the groups are really large, we may adjust to games first to 9.
11 Stats are recorded (actual score per game) for each individual.
12 At the end of the night, the score sheet is totaled and signed by the designated captain with a review and signature by another person.
13 Sheets are turned into Debbie.
14 Tear down the gym – EVERYONE! We need to be finished and closing up the gym no later than 9:10.
Debbie and Chuck Madden are responsible for opening and closing the gym for this league, and unless otherwise specified, Debbie will be serving as league director. Please politely and patiently cooperate and follow their lead during this time. THANK YOU!!
