Dear Picklers,

As you can tell in going over to Carry Blake Park, there have been a lot of things happening.  Half of our courts are now poured.  We will have a concrete playing surface and not asphalt.  The other half will follow shortly and then there might be a little while with not much happening.  The concrete needs to cure before any painting will start.
Let’s hope for good weather!

From the DOCO’s Corner

Can You Believe It?

Mother Nature has finally decided to treat us to some warmer, sunnier weather and that means outdoor play is in full swing. We’ve resumed our novice sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 4 pm, as well as open play on Fridays at 12 pm at the 3rd and Fir Street courts.  Saturday and Sunday play are available at both the B&G Club and the outdoor courts.  If you have a question regarding where we are playing, check the calendar located on the webpage.  A quick reminder that we are NOT allowed on the 3rd and Fir street courts until 4 pm Monday through Thursday, and not until 12 pm on Friday. We play there with permission from the Sequim School District and we’d appreciate everyone abiding by these rules. Soon we won’t have to worry about that as our new courts are well on their way to being completed! YAY!  If you haven’t been by lately to check on the progress, I’d suggest a quick drive by.  It’s amazing the amount of progress and just how quickly it’s going, even though it can’t be soon enough.

Our Spring Mixed Doubles League is halfway through and there’s been some great competition in both groups.  A big thank you out to Diane Froula and all her excellent work in organizing it and to Ron Halpern for keeping the statistics each week.  We all appreciate your hard work.

We need your input.  I’d like to hear your thoughts regarding a Summer League.  Any ideas or feedback would be appreciated.  Some things to weigh in on include – how long would you like to see a summer league last?  Should we consider just hosting open play since lots of our members travel and are away competing in tournaments elsewhere, and possibly having two short sessions of 4 weeks each instead of one long session?  Please feel free to email me or to talk with me in person about any ideas you may have.  I’m open to all suggestions.

I had the pleasure of attending a Hobby Fair at Greywolf Elementary on April 23rd on behalf of the Sequim Picklers and the sport of pickleball. I worked with three groups of 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students.  We played games and had a blast.  We set up a net and each student had a paddle to try his hand at dinking and control of the ball.  It was a great success and I even had students who are eager to learn more.  It’s an honor to be in a position to share this sport with the next generation; and, who knows, there may be a future U.S. Open Champion just waiting to be discovered.  See the kids in action here.
As always, I hope you are all well and getting some quality time in on the courts, either in or outdoors. Hope to see you on the other side of the net.  Pickle On!
